GRADING SYSTEM

AIS will start its educational year (Session 2019-20) on 23rd March, 2019. The session 2019-20 is divided into two semesters, consisting of two quarters each. Progress Report Cards of students grades and absences are issued to parents at the end of each quarter in Parent-Teachers Conference/Meeting (PTC) (PTM). Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Kindergarten Progress Reports are marked with a 1-5 numeric scale. Each number represents the following:

  • Outstanding = 1
  • Above Expectations = 2
  • Meet Expectations = 3
  • Below Expectations = 4
  • Not meeting Expectations = 5
  • Not Assessed = N/A

Grades 1 – 12 are marked with A, B, C, D or F in all academic subjects:

GRADING REPORTS

Progress Report Cards are issued at the end of each quarter at PTC and sent home to parents via students. Progress Report Cards must be signed and returned to school within a week. [All accounts must be paid in full each quarter before Progress Report Cards are available for parents.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

High/O-level requirements:
Math: 5 Credits
Science: 3 Credits
Biology: 4
Chemistry: 4
Physics: 4
Social Sciences: 3 Credits
English: 5 Credits
Physical Education: 2 Credits
Foreign Language: 2 Credits
Computer: 2 Credits


For the rest of the grades, a regular timetable is followed.

HOMEWORK

Homework is playing a vital role to have a significant impact on achieving high grades. A Research indicates homework at the Jr./Sr. school sections is the key of achievement. Parents are advised that homework for all levels (grades) is to be encouraged.

Pre-Nursery and Nursery classes: 25 – 30 minutes per day, 5 days a week.
Kindergarten – Grades 6: 40 – 45 minutes per day, 5 days a week.
Grades 7 & 8: 50 – 60 minutes per day, 5 days a week.
Grade 9: 60 – 120 minutes per day, 5 days a week.
Students must make arrangements with the school office at least three days in advance to receive Homework for planned absences. In order to be considered an excused absence, the absence/leave must be approved by administration and homework/leave task must be completed either before the student leaves or presented to the relevant teacher upon the student’s return.
In case of illness or unexpected absence, parents may call or send a note to the school office requesting homework. The school office will notify teachers if homework has been requested and should be ready for pick – up by the end of the day. Upon return from an unexpected absence, one day for each day missed will be allowed for make – up work. Teachers may provide more time at their discretion.
In case of a prolonged illness, an extension may be granted at the discretion of the administration and/or teacher. When absent for any reason, the student is responsible for doing assignments from the teacher upon returning to school.
